About This Game

Dots and Boxes 2.0 brings the beloved classic pen-and-paper strategy game into the digital age with a modern, feature-rich rendition. This engaging puzzle game challenges your tactical thinking and foresight. Originating as a simple yet profound pastime, Dots and Boxes has captivated generations, and this updated version aims to deliver that same timeless fun with enhanced playability and options. It's an ideal choice for players looking for a quick mental workout or a prolonged strategic battle. The objective of Dots and Boxes 2 is straightforward but deeply strategic. Players take turns connecting two adjacent dots, either horizontally or vertically, to draw a line. The goal is to be the player who draws the fourth side of a 1x1 square, thereby "completing" a box. When a player completes a box, they claim it and immediately get another turn, allowing for exciting chain reactions. The game continues until all possible lines have been drawn and all boxes are claimed. The player who has completed and claimed the most boxes by the end of the game is declared the winner. Dots and Boxes 2.0 offers multiple dynamic ways to enjoy this classic. Challenge yourself against a sophisticated AI bot, available in three distinct difficulty levels: Normal, Hard, and Expert, perfect for honing your skills. For those who prefer friendly competition, the game supports local multiplayer, allowing you to play head-to-head with a friend on the same device. Customize your gaming experience with adjustable board sizes, ranging up to a massive 20x20 grid, and personalize player colors. For a faster pace, the Quick Game option starts with 40% of the lines already filled, diving straight into the action. Plus, comprehensive statistics tracking lets you monitor your progress and improve your strategy over time.

How to Play

1. The game starts with an empty grid of dots.2. Players take turns drawing a single horizontal or vertical line between two adjacent dots.3. If a player draws a line that completes the fourth side of a 1x1 square (a "box"), they claim that box and immediately get another turn.4. Players should strategically draw lines to complete boxes for themselves and prevent their opponent from completing multiple boxes.5. The game ends when all possible lines have been drawn and all boxes on the board are claimed.6. The player who has claimed the most boxes at the end of the game wins.

This game is a fantastic modern take on a classic! I used to play Dots and Boxes with pen and paper all the time, and this digital version captures all that fun perfectly. The single-player AI is surprisingly smart and provides a real challenge on harder settings, but it's also great for a quick, casual game. The local multiplayer is where it really shines though – super fun to play with friends and family. It’s simple to learn but has a lot of strategic depth. Definitely recommend it if you like brain teasers.

Dots and Boxes 2 looks really clean and polished for a puzzle game. The minimalist design works well, and the colors pop just enough without being distracting. I appreciate how clear it is to see who controls which box. My only minor suggestion would be for a bit more visual flair or maybe some customizable themes in the future. It's not a huge deal for a game like this, but it would be a nice touch. Overall, very pleasing to the eye and easy to navigate.

I was excited for this, but the AI difficulty feels a bit off. On easy, it's almost too simple, but then on medium, it sometimes makes really silly moves, and other times it's like a grandmaster. There doesn't seem to be a smooth progression. I ended up getting a bit bored with the single player after a while because of this inconsistency. The core game is still fun, especially with another person, but I wish the AI was more consistent or offered more distinct challenge levels. It's okay, but not amazing.
